Upcoming and past courses
University Darmstadt, Department of Management, April 22-25, 2024
Embodied Critical Thinking and Understanding applied to Sustainability and Resilience in the Context of Environmental Studies, Public Management and Entrepreneurship.
Understanding meaning in an embodied, enactive way opens up depth-dimensions of meaning which rely on practice, an which have ethical implications. Traditional assumptions of meaning as representative work in the background of approaches recommending detachment and clarity as a methodological pre-condition. However, these approaches do not grant methodological support of how to attain clearness of one’s standpoints, relevant questions and ideas in the first place. If we conceive of meaning as an organic phenomenon with entangled roots, the thinking researcher becomes a source of thought that can be cultivated much more fruitfully than conventionally done. Listening and mutual support in holding the space for the development of ideas play a vital role. For this, of course, one also needs to re-conceive a disfunctional binary of the concepts of subjective and objective.

Continuing Courses for TECTU Alumni
12 webinars and a five day summer school. In this course we practice the basic attitudes, explorative moves, and zigzagging use of language of Focusing. Focusing is a major basis of TAE, as it is the practice to become more and more able to notice a felt sense dimension of a topic, a situation, and to become able to articulate it, and to know how to maneuver care-fully in these murky and meaningful waters.
We offer this course to professionals from academia for two reasons, one is philosophical the other is practical, and both belong together. We believe that transforming our way of thinking is necessary in the face of a crisis of system we are part of. This transformation implies personal transformation. In a very concrete sense this means to become more aware of the motivational sources of one’s work, of the kind of anxiety one experiences, the kind of stress, the kind of intuitions and the hurdles coming along. It also implies capacities to create a space to explore how the system we work in impacts our lives in different ways, the costs and the benefits, what valuable aspects it opens up, which valuable aspects of our life are muffled or being sacrifzied. Focusing can be a powerful method to explore such themes, and by exploring them in a focusing way transformation happens. This is the first course of its kind to have academics explore these questions together.
